Samantha Dunbar Inc. Services

Our Services

Our aim is to improve quality of life through the demanding rehabilitative process through the use of various modalities.

Manual Therapy

This involves hands on techniques aimed at improving tissue extensibility, joint range of motion, relaxation, improved muscle function and decreased pain. Manual therapy is often an important part of your treatment.

Comprehensive Assessment

Your Physiotherapist or Biokineticist will perform a thorough assessment on you consisting of an interview, as well as a series of objective tests. This is done in order to accurately determine the cause of your pain or dysfunction and treat you accordingly.

Rehabilitation

Post-operative rehabilitation is the process that takes place after surgery in order to help restore joint and muscle range of motion, muscle strength and endurance, cardiovascular strength and endurance, and overall function.

Classes

There are many benefits to engaging in exercise classes. We offer a variety of classes aimed at improving your overall function in a constructive, facilitated and safe environment.

Sport Specific Conditioning

As Biokineticists we can design sport specific conditioning programs for athletes in order to help them better their performance or to return to sport following an injury.

Bike Fit

Having the correct bike fit is of vital importance for any cyclist, whether you are the “weekend warrior” or competitive “racing snake”. Our Biokineticists are fully qualified and trained in the ErgoFit method.

Vitality Assessments

The Vitality Fitness Assessments give you an indication of how fit you are. You will get a comprehensive report showing your level of fitness and areas that need to be improved.

Gait & Running Analysis

This is an in-depth assessment of your biomechanics while running or walking to improve running efficiency and to help decrease the risk of injuries.

Corporate Services

This is a personalised assessment performed on the workspace that an individual operates in, in order to improve productivity and comfort.

Lung Function

A lung function test is a noninvasive, objective test and is also called a Spirometry. A Spirometry test is used to screen for diseases that affect the lungs such as COPD, asthma or exercise induced asthma.

Neurological Conditions

Neurological physiotherapy involves the treatment of people with movement and function disorders that have originated from problems within the body’s nervous and neuromuscular system.

Social Responsibility

We are committed to assisting our local community by means of uplifting, up-skilling and educating lower income areas. We offer weekly services to Lion Park Primary School and Thabo Mbeki Day Care Centre.

Paediatric Services

Our paediatric physiotherapy services include treatment of constipation, bed wetting and wee or poo leaks, as well as baby massage and the treatment of babies struggling with colic.

Pregnancy

Womens Health

This is aimed specifically at treating pain and or dysfunction unique to the female body across the lifespan, including young athletes, childbearing women, menopausal and the elderly.

Compression bandage

Lymph Drainage

Lymphoedema, which is the swelling of a body part that is caused by an abnormal accumulation of fluid, is treated by Complete Decongestive Therapy (CDT), which must be performed by a trained professional.

Craniosacral Therapy

Craniosacral therapy is a gentle, hands-on treatment that helps relieve tension and tightness that can cause pain and dysfunction. Treatment is aimed at ensuring optimal activity of the craniosacral rhythm.

Dry Needling

Dry needling is a procedure in which a sterile, single use, fine needle is inserted into a myofascial trigger point (a ‘knot’ in your muscle) in order to help decrease pain and improve function.

Traction

a technique we use to help open up the intervertebral joint spaces. This is done with a traction machine which uses pulleys to distract the individual intervertebral joint.

Taping

Taping is often used in addition to treatment from your Physiotherapist for stability by restricting movement of injured joints, soft tissue compression to reduce swelling and support anatomical structures.

Cybex Testing

A Cybex test is used to measure the maximum strength of a joint through its available range of motion. The results are analysed and interpreted by our Biokineticists.

VOMS Tests

Concussion Rehabilitation

Rehabilitation specific to concussion is of vital importance in order to ensure that you return to optimal function within an appropriate time frame.

Shockwave Treatment

Shockwave therapy is a non-invasive treatment that uses a series of low energy acoustic wave pulses that are directly applied to an injury through a person’s skin via a gel medium.

Electrotherapy

Using gentle and non-invasive devices designed to deliver customised levels of electrical stimulation to your body's nerves, muscles, or tendons, your physiotherapist can harness the power of electrotherapy to promote treat injuries, promote healing, and offer pain relief.

Chronic Pain Treatment

Experiencing pain for an extended time causes changes within our nervous system increasing our sensitivity to certain stimuli. This can result in experiencing pain without a physiological explanation. We use specialised treatment techniques to decrease this increased sensitivity.

Visceral Manipulation

Visceral manipulation is often thought to be the missing link in recurring musculoskeletal pain, postural abnormalities and biomechanical dysfunctions.

Physiotherapist
“Being a physiotherapist myself & 'classified' as a complex patient, I am rather fussy when it comes to someone treating me. With Tam I am at complete ease & have full trust in her & the treatment & exercises she prescribes. Sam Dunbar, Tamryn & team have a fantastic, patient friendly and professional service where everyone will feel welcome & satisfied. I highly recommend them for all you aches & pains!”

Robyn Tacon

patient
“I have been seeing Samantha Dunbar Inc. for over 5 years as I had an operation to remove a tumour from my back. They are professional, warm, interested and have a caring manner. They have enabled me to complete exercises and movements I did not feel I would ever achieve again in my legs and back. It has been an enlightening experience to learn just what good physiotherapy can achieve. Thank you for your support and this journey to recovery.”

Carolyn Rabin

Patient review
“I find all the staff at Samantha Dunbar very friendly and professional and always very willing to assist and go the extra mile. It is always a pleasure dealing with them as they clearly have a passion for what they do and it is very evident in the sessions I have with them. ”

Dirk Graadt van Roggen

Cycling injury recovery
“I met Tamryn in 2017 with an ITB issue between cycle races. She was given 2 days to fix the problem which she managed to do. She has since been my Physio. A few months later I had an accident in which I broke my leg. There were various complications in the surgery. I was diagnosed as disabled with drop foot. Tammy worked tirelessly to help rehabilitate my use of the leg and together we successfully restored dorsiflexion of my right foot. With Tammy’s support, I managed to complete months of Ironman training and would’ve competed in a 70.3 ironman within 2 years from my accident (and after being told I will never walk again), had it not been for lockdown. Tammy’s dedication and support proves that her occupation is her passion. Her patients come first. Tammy never gave up on me and for that, I will always recommend her!”

Graham savage

“Rodger's indescribable workouts are matched by a wonderful sense of humour and his vigorous drive is inspirational. He has great knowledge of body mechanics, muscle function and is capable of determining the individual abilities of his clients.”

Ashraf Mall

“Being very apprehensive about my fitness levels due to lifestyle choices, I was a bit nervous for the Rubiblue Wellness day. This has also prevented me from going to gym having believed I was very unfit. Thanks to the awesome Bio's who were extremely knowledgable and gentle in their approach, I realised I was not in as bad a shape as I though (far from where I need to be though). This has helped me make better choices going forward and I now know exactly where I stand and where I need to get to. I am proud to say I have quit smoking and am making healthier choices for myself and I am actively going to gym. Were it not for the Wellness day, none of this would have happened.”

Grant Rees-Bevan

“This experience has made me realise that I want to pursue a career in Physiotherapy as I believe I'll be able to make a difference and have a positive impact in people's lives.”
