As the days get longer, and the weather gets warmer, the needs of our bodies change. Here are some tips to keep you happy and healthy during the season change.

1. VEG OUT THE RIGHT WAY

Stock up on seasonal fruits and veggies to boost your immune system. Our spring seasonal fruits are berries, bananas and broccoli.

2. GET OUTSIDE

Due to our very cold winter, many of us spent most of our time in doors and under blankets. This leads to a vitamin-D deficiency. As it’s gets warmer, get outside and soak up the sun. Vitamin-D obtained through sun exposure lasts twice as long in the blood compared to ingested vitamin-D.

3. WASH YOUR HANDS

Our hands pick up germs so easily because of the multiple surfaces we touch during the day. These germs then make their way into our bodies when we touch our mouths, eyes and ears. Be conscious of washing (or at least sanitising) your hands, especially before eating.

Scrub for at least 20 seconds when washing your hands.

4. KEEP EXERCISING

Exercise helps to flush bacteria out of our lungs and airways which may help reduce the chance of getting a cold. Regular exercise is enough to boost immunity.

5. GET BETTER SLEEP

Research has shown that those who do not get quality sleep or enough sleep are more likely to get sick after being exposed to a virus. Get into a good sleeping routine and give your body enough time to rest and recover after each day. A lack of sleep can also affect how quickly you recover if you do get sick.

6. GET SOME FRESH AIR

Fresh air boosts immunity by increasing the amount of oxygen we get which helps white blood cells function properly to kill bacteria and germs. The weather is warming up and rapidly too, so open up the windows and get some fresh air circulating throughout your home. Fresh air not only strengthens your immune system but also gives you more energy and a sharper mind.

7. INCREASE YOUR VITAMIN-C INTAKE

As we all know, vitamin-C helps boost immunity. You can either take vitamin-C tablet or simply eat foods such as oranges or grapefruit. Your body does not store vitamin-C so it is recommended that you take it daily (65 to 90 mg per day).

8. STAY HYDRATED

We had an unusually cold winter this year, which means our heaters were on more than usual. Heaters dry out the air and lead to dry and damaged skin. Help rejuvenate your skin by drinking more water. People who drink sufficient amounts of water are less likely to suffer from scars, wrinkles and soft lines.

9. PREVENT SEASONAL ALLERGIES

If you are one of the unlucky ones who suffers from seasonal allergies, prepare for the season change with over-the-counter medication, or visit your doctor to discuss other prescribed allergy treatments, like shots or tablets, to reduce your symptoms.

And lastly, but most importantly

10. DON’T WORRY… BE HAPPY

It has been proven that a positive attitude can boost your immune system.

Having a positive attitude also results in increased productivity at work, better relationships and social life as well as makes overcoming obstacles easier.
